wow. See... that has some economic feeling behind it (to me), and it's something humans just would not be able to do.
Maybe: there's less variation in the skill sets of ants that it's in their interest to risk each individual equally in an attempt to save the entire colony. Human skill sets have a much wider variation, and I think we'd look at it as a survival of the fittest. It wouldn't surprise me if both ants and humans have a group of individuals (the president, the ?queen ant?) that are protected at all times.
